Geographical range of database: Transylvania.

The unit of the analysis: person.

Target population: inhabitants of Romania, the Hungarian inhabitants of Romania.

Type of database: survey.

The temporal dimension of the database: cross-sectional.

Sample taking procedure: multi-scale, layered sampling. The whole sample consisted of two sample-parts: total population of Romania (1253), and the Hungarian population of Romania (798). In the Romanian sample the Romanian population living in Covasna and Harghita counties was overrepresented (287 persons in the national sample against the justified 5 persons). The settlements were selected according to economic-cultural regions (Transylvania, Northwest, Banat, Moldova, Wallachia, Dobrudja, Bucharest), other characteristics of the settlements (size and administrative status). Ethnic proportions were also considered.

Data collection procedure: questionnaire.

Database weighting: the database was archived with weighted variables. This means that the Hungarian and Romanians living in Szeklerland are represented according to their real percentage (0,5, and 7,6 percent). The database is representative of the whole Romania. By choosing the esantion variable one can select the Hungarian respondents only.
